The Interborough is the Saturday feature at Aqueduct

The $100,000, seven-furlong Jerome Stakes for older fillies and mares is the featured race on Saturday at Aqueduct. Betsy Blue is the 3-5 morning line favorite in the field of six.

Betsy Blue is trained by Linda Rice and the winner of the Garland of Roses last month at the Big A where she has an outstanding record of 11: 7-1-1.

“I think her kick is most effective at 6 1/2 furlongs,” said Rice, who captured the 2016 Interborough with La Verdad. “She likes a fast pace in front of her and then to just lay off it. But she’s pretty versatile and gives you an effort every time whether it’s a mile, seven or six [furlongs].”

Flight to Shanghai was claimed recently by Horacio De Paz and with 10-1 morning line odds she provides some value in the exotics to horseplayers.

“She’s been very forward and consistent in her training,” De Paz said. “The Go for Wand was a pretty good, honest effort on her part. If you consider the field of horses she ran against, it was a huge step up.”

(5) Betsy Blue won the Garland of Roses at the Big A last time when she rallied from last. In her career she has seven wins at Aqueduct and three of them were at seven furlongs. Her last two speed figures tower over this field. (3) Piece of My Heart was first or second in her last four starts in top allowance races at Aqueduct. Two weeks ago, she was a winner on a sloppy track after a stalking trip. (2) Miss T Too will make the final start of her career as she ships up to New York from Kentucky for Michael McCarthy after a pair of third-place finishes in allowance races. She is projected to be on the lead in this small field. (4) Flight to Shanghai was claimed two races back by Horacio De Paz and tried the Go For Wand (G3) in her first start for the new trainer. Expect another improvement this time out.
