Older fillies and mares sprint in the Garland of Roses on Saturday at Aqueduct
By NY Hot List staff | Friday, December 8, 2023
The $120,000 Garland of Roses drew a field of seven older fillies and mares in the featured race on Saturday at Aqueduct. The six-furlong sprint is loaded with speed and horses that prefer to race on the front end. Disco Ebo won 6 out of her last 8 starts and ran in this race last year.
Disco Ebo will ship up from Parx Racing for trainer Butch Reid Jr. who has two recent stakes victories at Aqueduct.
“She’s been tearing them up down there in Philly, so she really likes that track. She actually ran in [this] race last year and ran well, finished third,” said Reid Jr. “I think she’s a more mature horse this year and she’s even filled out. She’s a bigger, stronger, heavier horse than last year.”

(4) You Look Cold returns to stakes competition and gets an ideal set-up for her closing running style in a field in which she is the only late runner. The Bill Mott trainee won a second-level allowance in October after a short layoff. (1) Disco Ebo looks like the speed of the speed breaking from the rail. Primarily racing at Parx, she is the winner of 9 out of 18 starts with five of the victories coming at six furlongs. She was third in this race last year against a much stronger field. (5) Olga Isabel won all three of her starts since joining the Brad Cox barn and starting her 2023 campaign. She has three allowance scores at three different tracks moving from Saratoga to Keeneland in her last two. (7) Hot Fudge is the winner of 4 out of her last 6 starts including a more than three length win at Aqueduct just eight days ago.
