Three-year-old fillies featured in the Wild Applause on Saturday at Aqueduct

By NY Hot List staff | Thursday, June 20, 2024

The $150,000 Wild Applause is the featured race on an 11-race card as part of the Belmont at the Big A meeting Saturday at Aqueduct. The field of nine sophomore fillies, along with two that are entered for the main track only, will race a mile on the turf.

At 4-1 on the morning line, Gala Brand will make her first start of the year. As a 2-year-old she raced four times and won her first two starts becoming a graded-stakes winner for trainer Bill Mott.

“We freshened her. She was kind of worn out by the time we ran in the Breeders’ Cup. She needed a rest and we gave her a rest,” said Mott. “She’s been back and had several good works. We just feel this is the time to start back up.”

(9) Oversubscribed (A) got off to an awkward start, had to check later in the race, and rallied for second as a heavy favorite in his second start. The European-bred 3-year-old filly was a debut winner in February at Tampa Bay Downs for Chad Brown as the top betting choice. (1) Gala Brand was a rare winner as a first-time starter for Bill Mott at Saratoga last summer that went on to beat the boys in the With Anticipation (G3). She ended her juvenile campaign with a Breeders’ Cup appearance. (7) Grayosh broke her maiden in her third start for Brown and then finished fourth in the Wonder Again (G2). (3) Vino Rouge was stakes-placed as a 2-year-old and then moved back onto the turf to begin his 2024 racing campaign with a third-place finish in an allowance.
