The Spinaway for 2-year-old fillies is featured on Saturday at Saratoga

The Grade 1, $300,000 Spinaway at Saratoga on Saturday drew a field of 11 juvenile fillies lead by the two-time stakes winner The Queens M G. The Spinaway, which will be run at seven-furlongs, has seven horses that already have a victory at this summer’s Saratoga meeting.

The Queens M G sold for $3,500 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky in October and has already earned $254,380 from four starts. The daughter of Thousand Words won at first asking and then moved to the barn of trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. where she won twice.

“She is 3-for-4, just one blemish in her career. She regrouped and got it done, with last time being the most impressive win so far,” said Joseph Jr. “She seems like she keeps getting better and hopefully they don’t catch up to her yet.” 

The $300,000 Spinaway (G1) at Saratoga, Saturday, Race 11, 5:41 pm ET.

(10) Bellacose (A) was geared down when she won a maiden race for NY-breds by almost 11-lengths last month for trainer Jeremiah Englehart who recently won the Funny Cide with a fast NY-bred colt. (8) The Queens M G has a career record of 4: 3-0-0 and leads the field with the most victories and earnings. She won her first start in April at Keeneland at 45-1 and was sold privately. Her first start for Saffie Joseph Jr. was in the Astoria during the June Saratoga meeting where she had a rough start that resulted in a seventh-place finish as the 2-1 favorite. She bounced right back as a long shot again in the Schuylerville winning at 44-1. Earlier in the month she added a victory in the Adirondack (G3) at odds of 5-2. (11) Quietside was a speedy maiden winner by more than six-lengths at Saratoga on the Adirondack undercard. (7) Pondering was an odds-on winner of her debut at Ellis Park in July for Brendan Walsh.
