8-year-old My Boy Tate seeks 12th career win at Aqueduct Saturday

By NY Hot List Staff | Friday, January 9, 2022

With the arrival of New Year’s Day, horses celebrate their birthday and turn a year older. For a veteran like My Boy Tate, while the turning of the calendar to 2022 made him an 8-year-old, he’s been running as good as ever lately. A winner of 11 of 29 starts, he’ll try to make it a dozen Saturday when faces five rivals in the $100,000 Say Florida Sandy Stakes for New York State-breds at Aqueduct.

Here’s the Hot List picks for the Say Florida Sandy Stakes:

The $100,000 Say Florida Sandy, Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 8

(4) Lobsta made an impressive return from a five-month layoff when he won the New York Stallion Series at Aqueduct last month with a front-end effort. He finished a half-length ahead of the veteran New York-bred My Boy Tate in that race. Javier Castellano comes up from Florida and stays on board Lobsta for trainer Gary Sciacca. (5) My Boy Tate will get a chance to turn the tables on Lobsta at his favorite track and at his favorite distance. He has seven wins at the Big A and 5 at the seven-furlong distance. My Boy Tate will be running late down the stretch. (1) Alpha Chi Rho is an outsider in this small field. Based at Pimilico, he only raced once against NY-breds and that was as a 2-year-old at Saratoga. He is the winner of 4 out of his last 6 starts mostly against open allowance company at Laurel Park. (6) Saratoga Pal won a second-level state-bred allowance in his last start at Aqueduct with a strong closing move.
