Arklow, Gufo square off in Kentucky Turf Cup

By NY Hot List Staff | Friday, September 9, 2022

As New York racing takes much a deserved week off after the glorious Saratoga meet, racing at Kentucky Downs enters the spotlight this weekend. The rich turf-only meet is famous for big field and great process and the featured race Saturday is no exception. A field of 13 was entered in the Kentucky Turf Cup, which carries a $1 million purse and offers the winner a free spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. With 12 of them running, there should be a wealth of attractive betting opportunities.

Here’s the Hot List picks for the Kentucky Turf Cup

Kentucky Downs, Saturday, Race 10:

(4) Arklow is still going strong at the age of 8, finishing second in the Grade 2 Bowling Green at Belmont in his 2022 debut. He loves this course and race, racking up two wins and two seconds in the last four runnings. There’s no reason to expect anything different Saturday and he gets the nod in a tough field. (8) Gufo is in top form after winning the Grade 1 Sword Dancer at Saratoga last time. He should like the surface, which will not be rock hard, and looks like the one to fear. (1) Red Knight was second in this stakes two years ago and comes off a sharp win in his first start for Maker. He loves a distance of ground and should be a main factor from the rail. (6) Glynn County has not won for a while but he’s well-tested at the distance and could sneak into the superfecta.
