Barese returns to face NY-breds in the Times Square at Aqueduct

By NY Hot List staff | Thursday, April 21, 2022

Barese makes a quick return in the Times Square division of the New York Stallion Series following an appearance in the Wood Memorial two weeks ago. Barese was unbeaten in three careers starts against NY-breds heading into his foray on the Kentucky Derby trail.

The son of Laoban was in a tough spot in that Grade 2, but still finished fifth beaten by only five lengths. The Michael Maker trainee will come back to face state-bred company where he already has two stakes wins racing around one-turn at Aqueduct.

“I thought he ran a great race, he just wasn’t good enough,” Maker said. “He continues to train well and we’re looking for some class relief.”

The $200,000 NY Stallion – Times Square – Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 8.

(2) Barese brought his unbeaten record against NY-breds to the Wood Memorial where he was overmatched, but still was within five lengths of the winner. Now, he returns to this state-bred stake where he already has won twice, both times racing around one-turn for Mike Maker. His last two speed figures are clearly the highest in this field. (1) Unique Unions returns from a January layoff. He has plenty of early speed which he flashed in a pair of NY-bred stakes. From the rail, he is going to try and win this race out front. (6) Mister Larry was a debut winner in January at Aqueduct and then tried an allowance and a stake. He will get blinkers on for the first time. (7) Kazmike was second in his two tries in NY-bred maiden special weights.
