Evenly matched field of 5 in the Toboggan at Aqueduct on Saturday

Evenly matched field of 5 in the Toboggan at Aqueduct on Saturday
By the New York Hot List // Friday, January 29

It may sound surprising, but even with a field of just five starters, Saturday’s Toboggan Stakes at Aqueduct promises to be an interesting betting affair. Among the five starters, the main three – Share the Ride, Pete’s Play Call and Stan the Man – are evenly matched. The other two, Drafted and American Power are not far behind them in terms of talent. Mix all that together and you have a race with square prices in which you will not find a 20-1 shot but you will not have to fret about an 1-2 on the favorite, either.

Here’s the Hot List picks for the Toboggan

The $100,000 Toboggan Stakes, Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 4.

(1) Pete’s Play Call is the winner of four of his last six starts including the Gravesend at the beginning of the month which he won in his first start for Rudy Rodriguez since being claimed for $62,500 back in November.  He has a great record at the Big A and at today’s distance of seven furlongs in the Toboggan (G3), the first graded stake of the year in New York. (3) Share the Ride ships in from Parx with three wins in his last six starts with a neck loss in a Laurel stake and a win in the Fall Highweight (G3) before that. When he runs in New York he does so in the name of local trainer Antonio Arriaga.  (4) Stan the Man hit the board in five consecutive stakes races in New York with a win at Saratoga this past summer. He clearly does his best running at the Big A where he has five of his seven career victories. (5) American Power won his last two starts including a front-end win at Aqueduct going the Toboggan distance.
