Field of nine tangles in tricky allowance at Aqueduct on Saturday

Field of nine tangles in tricky allowance at Aqueduct on Saturday
By the New York Hot List Staff // Thursday, February 11

There may not be a stakes race at Aqueduct on Saturday, but there’s a pretty nice substitute. While short fields have been the norm for most wintertime New York stakes, Saturday’s eighth race at Aqueduct is an $84,000 allowance race with a highly competitive field of nine. Looking over the field, all nine of the starters have a Beyer Speed Figure between an 84 and 94 in one of their last two races, making it a great betting race with plenty of wagering value for handicappers.

Here’s the Hot List picks:

Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 8.

Race 8 is a second-level allowance race (OC 62k/N2X) for open company going six-furlongs where four of the runners are entered for the optional $62,500 claiming price. Typically, those entered for a tag have already raced through the other conditions of this type of race and can only get in as a claimer. Happy Farm, who is a graded stakes winner with nine career victories and earnings over $500,000, is a perfect example.

(9) More Graytful (C) was a winner last time in a first-level allowance for Brad Cox after getting bet down to be the 2-1 favorite from 4-1. (6) Mi Tres Por Ciento (D) was bet down to be the 2-1 top choice from 4-1 against a similar field and finished fourth and now he’s in for a tag. (1) Happy Farm won the Fall Highweight (G3) in 2019 and a $50,000 open claimer in his most recent race, which was his second start since leaving the Jason Servis barn to go to Linda Rice. (3) Money Ride is the winner of three out of his last four starts including a first-level allowance last time out for Mike Miceli. He is the winner four out of eight starts in his career at the Big A.
