Fort Marcy is one of three graded stakes at Belmont Park on Saturday

By NY Hot List staff | Thursday, May 5, 2022

Saturday at Belmont Park there is a trio of graded stakes with the $200,000 Grade 2 Fort Marcy drawing the largest field. The race for older male grass horses has a field of eight that will go a mile and an eighth on the inner turf course.

Chad Brown has three runners in the Fort Marcy – Sacred Life, Rock Emperor, and L’Imperator – as he tries to win the race for the fifth consecutive year.

New York-bred City Man came back from a five-month layoff and won the Danger’s Hour in April at Aqueduct earning a triple-digit Beyer Speed Figure. City Man was second in the Fort Marcy last year and his trainer Christophe Clement won this race back in 2013.

“He’s doing well. He’s very versatile and we’ve been lucky in that race in the past, so let’s try to do it again,” Clement said.

Barclay Tagg entered Doswell in the Fort Marcy for his second start of this year after last being seen in the Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) back in January. He is a past Grade 2 winner.

“You never know how they’ll run off the layoff, but he’s training well,” Tagg said. “He’s good and strong and healthy.”

(3) City Man was an impressive winner with a very high 100 Beyer Speed Figure in the Danger’s Hour at Aqueduct following a winter layoff for Christophe Clement. Last year he was second in this race. (4) King Cause steadily improved in his last three starts in 2022 including a stakes win at Turfway Park most recently. (7) Doswell returns from four months off after last being seen in the Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) and a win in a Grade 2 before that at Gulfstream Park. (6) Rockemperor has been away since November when he was racing in Grade 1 races for Chad Brown winning the Turf Classic at Belmont in October.
