New York-bred fillies and mares will sprint in the Dancin Renee on Saturday

By the New York Hot List Staff // Friday, June 11

A field of six New York-bred fillies and mares was drawn for Saturday’s feature at Belmont Park, the $100,000 Dancin Renee, which will be run at the distance of six-furlongs. Espresso Shot, who was a supplemental nomination into this field after doing little running on a very wet track at Belmont on May 31, will try and win a stakes race for the fifth time in her career.

“She came out of her last race in good shape,” said Dan Zanatta, managing partner of Espresso Shot. “We thought she was going into her last race on a career best form and we were fully expecting her best race. I think she did not handle the slop. We saw this race come up, looked at the competition and decided to supplement into this spot.”

The sprint is named in honor of Sandford Bacon’s seven-time stakes winner, who defeated New York-breds as well as posting open-company scores. She retired with nearly a half-million in earnings and produced multiple stakes-winner Risky Rachel as a broodmare.

There is plenty of early speed which should come from Fierce Lady, Ruvies in Time, and Sadie Lady. That early pace will give an advantage to the late runners like Espresso Shot, Good Credence, and the Hot List horse Eloquent Speaker.

Here are the Hot List picks for the Dancin Renee:

The $100,000 Dancin Renee, Belmont Park, Saturday, Race 8.

(2) Eloquent Speaker (D) will return to state-bred competition where she had won two races in a row in allowance company. Last time out against open company she tried to stretch out to a mile distance while getting bet down from 8-1 to 9-2. The cutback and the pace scenario are ideal. (6) Espresso Shot did little running on a very wet Belmont main track, so she will come back on short notice with plenty of speed to set up a closing move. (3) Good Credence made her 2021 debut in the Critical Eye and she finished second going a mile in the same race as Espresso Shot. This Monmouth Park based runner has an excellent record at Belmont Park. (5) Sadie Lady may be the fastest of the front runners in this field. Her last three races were against open company and include a win in the Correction and a second in the Vagrancy. Six-furlongs is her best distance.
