The Octafecta Jackpot is Still Up for Grabs — Bet Now at MyWinners

The Octafecta launched at Turfway Park on March 11, 2026. Since then, not a single bettor has cracked it.

Every race day that passes without a winner adds more to the prize pool. The carryover keeps building. And right now, with Turfway Park's meet still running and Churchill Downs just weeks away, the window to get into this jackpot at its most interesting point is wide open.

If you haven't played the Octafecta yet — or you've heard about it and want to understand what you're actually betting on — here's everything you need to know.

What is the Octafecta?

The Octafecta is a pari-mutuel exotic bet where you pick the first eight finishers in a designated race, in the exact order they cross the finish line. Get all eight right and you win a share of the accumulated jackpot pool.

The minimum bet is $1. The race has to have at least 10 runners. And unlike most exotic bets, there's no mandatory payout — the pool never resets unless someone actually wins it.

That last part is what makes this different from anything else on the board. The Daily Racing Form described the Octafecta as the most ambitious jackpot-style bet ever offered in US racing history. It's not hyperbole. The structure is built to grow.

Why the jackpot keeps building

Most horse racing exotics pay out every race day, win or lose. The Octafecta doesn't work like that.

When no ticket correctly identifies all eight finishers in order, the entire pool carries forward to the next race day. When multiple tickets do win on the same day, 25% of that day's pool is shared among those winners — and the remaining 75% still rolls into the next day's pool. On a day with no winner at all, every dollar carries. No deductions, no reset, no mandatory payout.

Since March 11, that's exactly what has been happening. The pool has been rolling race day after race day. Nobody has won the jackpot. Which means it's bigger today than it was when the bet first went live — and it will be bigger tomorrow than it is today.

Where the carryover goes next

Here's the part that should get your attention.

The Octafecta carryover doesn't stop at the end of a racing meet. When Turfway Park concludes its current run, the entire accumulated pool transfers in full to the next participating track. The rotation is:

  • Turfway Park — where the Octafecta launched, currently running

  • Churchill Downs — the pool arrives for the Spring meet, opening April 25 during Kentucky Derby week

  • Ellis Park — the carryover continues after Churchill Downs wraps

Churchill Downs opening on April 25 is not just any race day. That's the start of Kentucky Derby week — the highest-profile week in American racing, with the biggest betting handle of the spring. The handle on that first Churchill card will dwarf a typical Turfway Wednesday. That means more money going into the pool on top of whatever the carryover brings from Turfway.

If nobody wins at Turfway, a growing jackpot arrives at Churchill Downs with Derby week about to begin. That's the scenario horse racing has never seen before — and it's the one the Octafecta was designed to create.

How to build your Octafecta ticket

Picking eight horses in exact finishing order sounds intimidating. It's less complicated once you understand the ticket options available to you.

Straight ticket: One specific combination in exact order. The cheapest play at $1, and the purest form of the bet. If you have strong conviction about the field, a straight ticket is all you need.

Box: Cover every possible finishing order combination among a group of horses you've selected. More expensive, but dramatically more coverage. Useful when you've identified the right horses but aren't certain of the exact sequence.

Key a horse on top: Lock a horse you're confident about in first place, then spread your remaining positions across multiple horses below. Lowers the cost compared to a full box while keeping your best pick in the most important position.

Part-wheel: Key one or more horses in specific positions and use multiple horses in others. The most targeted approach — you're building coverage where you have the least certainty while holding firm where you do.

For a race with 10+ runners, a little form study before you build your ticket goes a long way. Check recent finishing positions, pace profiles, and track conditions on the day. The DRF form guide is available directly through the MyWinners platform, so the data you need is in the same place you're placing the bet.

What happens if your horse is scratched

If a horse on your Octafecta ticket is scratched from the race before the start, the next betting favorite at post time is substituted in its place. This follows standard pari-mutuel scratch rules. Always check the final field before you place your ticket, and be aware that if the race scratches below 10 runners before the start, the pool for that day is cancelled — though any accumulated carryover is retained and rolls to the next qualifying race.
