The Breeders’ Cup returns to Santa Anita

By NY Hot List Staff | November 2, 2023

For the 40th time, the best horses in the world will meet in the Breeders’ Cup this weekend. Lovely Santa Anita Park in California is the setting for the 11th time and an international field of 12 will be on hand to battle it out in the richest race of the 14 BC races, the Breeders’ Cup Classic. The 1 ¼-mile test promises to be an exciting affair that could ultimately crown the sport’s Horse of the Year.

Here’s the Hot List picks for the Breeders’ Cup Classic:

The $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita, Saturday, Race 9, 6:40 pm EDT.

(3) White Abarrio was an impressive winner of the Whitney Stakes (G1) in his second start with one of the highest speed figures on the year after being moved to the barn of Rick Dutrow Jr. He was also a Grade 1 winner of the Florida Derby. (8) Ushba Tesoro has dominated racing on the dirt in Japan and in the Dubai World Cup (G1) to the total of $9.5 million in earnings. This will be his first trip to North America.
