The Dwyer features 3-year-old racing at Belmont Park on Saturday

A field of six 3-year-olds, which features a Kentucky Derby runner and two others that appeared on the Derby trail, was drawn for the Grade 2, $250,000 Dwyer on Saturday at Belmont Park.
Charge It was that Kentucky Derby runner for Todd Pletcher who had a less than ideal trip and then exited with some physical issues.
“I don’t think he got to show his true ability that day in the Kentucky Derby,” said Pletcher. “He displaced a soft palate, which we did a minor surgical procedure on since then. I think we got that corrected, so hopefully he’ll come back to top form.”
The Hot List horse in this race is Fluid Situation (B), who is trained by John Terranova, had trouble in the Gold Fever at Belmont where he ran fourth. The Dwyer will be run as a one-turn mile.
“He got to a rough start in the Gold Fever. He had to check a couple of times. It got a little tight there,” Terranova said. “He’s the kind of horse that really doesn’t like to be hammered down like that. You don’t want to get in his way. He’s a horse that needs to be allowed to run a little bit. He’s just got real natural speed. Going a mile, obviously he’s a horse that should be prominent up front.”

(3) Fluid Situation (B) faced a tough field and did not get to run freely in the Gold Fever where he had to be hard held a couple of times and finished fourth. (1) Charge It showed promise when he finished second in the Florida Derby (G1). However, he was last seen in Kentucky Derby (G1) when he exited that race after a troubled trip with some minor physical issues which trainer Todd Pletcher has corrected. (6) Nabokov broke his maiden in his second race with a front-end effort when he stretched out in distance for Chad Brown. He was a $775,000 yearling purchase by Peter Brant. (5) Runninsonofagun has 3 wins from 6 starts with the first two at Aqueduct in the winter. After unsuccessfully trying the Derby trail in the Gotham (G3), he won an allowance at Parx and then was third in the Gold Fever.
