The Garland of Roses kicks off the Aqueduct winter meeting

New York Hot List | Friday, December 10, 2021

The $100,000 Garland of Roses is the first stakes race of the Aqueduct winter meeting. The six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares drew a field of seven headed by the 6-5 morning-line favorite Glass Ceiling. Glass Ceiling is trained by Charlie Baker who will be seeking his third win in this race with past victories last year and in 2014. The field features Aqueduct specialists that combined have won 16 times at New York City’s racetrack.

Here are the Hot List picks for the Garland of Roses:

The $100,000 Garland of Roses, Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 8.

(7) Song River has two allowances victories in a row for Cherie DeVaux, who is a former assistant trainer for Chad Brown. Based in Kentucky, Song River won recently at Churchill Downs after beating Glass Ceiling at Saratoga. Javier Castellano will get on board as she steps up to stakes company. (2) Glass Ceiling moved up to stakes company after an allowance win at Belmont to miss the top spot in the Pumpkin Pie by just a head. Trainer Charlie Baker claimed her for $40,000 back in May and since she has not run worse than fourth. (6) Sadie Lady has 5 wins from 8 career starts at Aqueduct including the Correction against open company in March. The NY-bred also won the Dancing Renee for state-breds at Belmont Park in June. The 5-year-old mare does her best racing on the front-end. She now returns from an August layoff after her prior start at Saratoga. The Rob Atras runner won off the layoff in the past. (4) Just Read It has two career wins and both were at the Big A including the Cicada in March. After that victory she was off until last month when she shipped to Churchill to finish third in an allowance. The 3-year-old will face older horses for the first time in the Garland of Roses.
