The Grade 2 Bed O’Roses is featured on Saturday at Aqueduct

By NY Hot List staff | Friday, June 14, 2024

The Grade 2, $200,000 Bed O’Roses is the featured race on another 11-race card on Saturday at Aqueduct. The field of 10 older female sprinters, which are all stakes-winners or stakes-placed, will race seven furlongs.

Flying Connection, who recently changed to the barn of the New York trainer Rob Atras, was identified as the 3-1 morning line favorite.

“She is a big filly. She has a really big, powerful stride. Especially when galloping out in her works. What I’m seeing right now, I’m hoping she can duplicate in the afternoon,” said Atras regarding his first impressions of the talented newcomer.

The $200,000 Bed O’ Roses (G2) at Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 10, 5:13 pm ET.

(6) Flying Connection won 7 out of 15 career starts with 11 top three finishes. A victory in the Bed O’ Roses would push her career earnings past the $1 million mark. Her past performances show wins at distances between six furlongs and 1 1/16 miles. The 4-year-old finished third in the Derby City Distaff (G1) at Churchill Downs and second in the Apple Blossom (G1) at Oaklawn Park. (8) Shidahbuti has a great record at Aqueduct with a third in the one-mile Ruffian (G2) last month and a win in the Distaff (G3) going the seven-furlong distance. (4) Morning Matcha raced from off the pace to win a pair of restricted stakes going seven-furlongs for Parx trainer Butch Reid in her last two starts. (2) Big Pond changed barns recently to Bill Mott after finishing seventh in the Madison (G1) at Keeneland in April and rallied from off the pace to finish second in the Vagrancy (G3). The California-bred began her career against state-breds and later was second by a nose in the LaBrea (G1) at Santa Anita. She won two Cal-bred stakes races as a 3-year-old.
