Top 3-year-olds clash in Travers at Saratoga

By NY Hot List Staff | Friday, August 23, 2024

The big day at Saratoga has arrived. On Saturday, the Spa will be host to its centerpiece event, the Travers Stakes. And this year’s event promises to be a dandy with Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch, Jim Dandy winner Fierceness and Kentucky Derby runner-up Sierra Leone facing the brilliant filly Thorpedo Anna in a field of eight. It promises to be a fantastic day of racing that you do not want to miss.

$1.25 million Travers (G1) at Saratoga, Saturday, Race 13, 5:43 pm ET.

(7) Dornoch was ignored heading into his determined victories in the Belmont Stakes (G1) and the Haskell (G1) but he cannot be overlooked as the horse to beat in the Travers. (1) Thorpedo Anna beat all the other 3-year-old fillies in her last four races with ease using a powerful stride that produced 4 to 5 length margins of victory. (8) Fierceness quieted his doubters when he returned to the winners after his victory in the Jim Dandy (G2). He is one of the horses that prefers to race as part of the early pace. (2) Sierra Leone should not be ignored following his streak of top three finishes in big races like the Kentucky Derby, Belmont, and Jim Dandy.
