Two $500K stakes on the Saturday Aqueduct card
By NY Hot List Staff | Friday, December 15, 2023
The last chance to make some money at Aqueduct before Santa Claus comes down the chimney arrives this weekend, featuring an unusually rich Saturday card. A pair of $500,000 New York State breeders’ stakes for 2-year-olds highlights the card. As you might expect from $1 million in purse money, the two races attracted large fields with 12 in the filly division and 14 in the male division. Given fields that big, there should be a good amount of betting value on the toteboard and perhaps an opportunity for some astute gamblers to pick up some extra cash for holiday shopping.
The $500,000 New York Stallion Series at Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 9, 3:37 pm EST.
(9) B D Saints (B) was a maiden winner on the grass against state-breds and then tried the Pilgrim (G2). Last time he checked at the start, broke at the back of the field, and rallied for second in the Sleepy Hollow at Aqueduct which was scheduled for the main track that turned out to be muddy and sealed. He is the 5-2 morning line favorite. (12) Brick Ambush was well bet in both starts and was a maiden winner at the Big A by two lengths going a mile. He will cutback to seven furlongs for his stakes debut. (1) Antonio of Venice was last seen in September in a state-bred stakes race where he set the pace and then drifted back to fourth. Since then trainer Rudy Rodriguez has had a hot barn. (11) Solo’s Fury gets a pass from a bad effort last time on a muddy track after a second and a maiden win to start his career. In his maiden victory he actually beat Brick Ambush but comes with morning line odds of 12-1 while the other horse is the second choice. Solo’s Fury is a live long shot.
