Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Oaks and Hall of Fame Stakes Headline Friday at the Spa
Saratoga's summer meet builds toward its biggest weekend of the year starting Friday, August 7, and the undercard alone is worth the trip. Two Grade 2 stakes worth $900,000 combined headline an 11-race program, the National Museum of Racing inducts its 2026 Hall of Fame class down the road at Fasig-Tipton, and Del Mar chips in a $100,000 restricted sprint for California-bred juveniles on the same afternoon. Saratoga Oaks Invitational Loads Up With Three From Chad Brown
The Grade 2, $500,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Oaks Invitational goes as Race 10 on Friday's card, with the whole 11-race program starting at 1:10pm Eastern. It's the eighth running of this 1 3/16 mile Mellon turf test for sophomore fillies, a race that's produced the likes of Concrete Rose, Cinderella's Dream and last year's stakes record setter Laurelin. This year's renewal drew eight and it's about as wide open as the race has looked in years.
Faithful Departed, from post 6 with Jose Ortiz aboard, arrives off a game second in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks and gives trainer Grant Forster a shot at his first graded win in New York. Forster said the filly worked a bullet half mile at Churchill Downs on July 30 and called it possibly her best work ever.
Forster said “she really just seems to be thriving,” pointing to the four weeks since the Belmont Oaks as the reason for the improvement.
Chad Brown sends out three, led by Fitz Right, beaten just a half length by Faithful Departed last time and looking to give Brown his first win in this specific race despite five Eclipse Awards on his mantel. Stablemate Just Aloof gets a second crack at the course after finishing seventh in the Belmont Oaks, while Consensus View, a lightly raced Frankel filly, steps up in class off a June maiden win at Aqueduct.
Graham Motion, last year's winning trainer, is back with Bless Her from post 4 and Hall of Famer John Velazquez in the irons. The Twirling Candy filly was impressive last out at Colonial Downs against open company and will start at her seventh different track in as many career runs. Todd Pletcher's Code scratched out of the local Lake George to take this spot instead, while Brendan Walsh's Imaginationthelady looks to bounce back from a troubled trip in the Belmont Oaks and Brad Cox's Kentucky Belle returns fresh from an April allowance win at Keeneland.

Hall of Fame Stakes Shares Sales Week Billing
Race 9 on Friday's card is the Grade 2, $400,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes, a one-mile turf test for 3-year-olds that's been run at Saratoga since 1985, back when it carried the name Gallant Man Stakes. Past winners read like a who's who of the turf division, including Paradise Creek, Artie Schiller, Big Blue Kitten and last year's controversial renewal, where Luther got elevated to the win after a stewards' inquiry knocked defending favorite Zulu Kingdom down to fourth.
Friday also marks the National Museum of Racing's annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion in Saratoga Springs, with sprint champion Kona Gold headlining this year's class. The ceremony runs at 10:30am, well ahead of the on track card, so racing fans in town for the induction have plenty of time to make their way to the track for the first post. Del Mar's Graduation Stakes Opens the California Bred Juvenile Season
Out west, Del Mar runs the $100,000 Graduation Stakes on the same Friday card, a 5 1/2 furlong dirt sprint restricted to 2-year-olds bred in California. First run in 1952, it's one of the longer running fixtures on the Del Mar stakes calendar and typically serves as an early season form guide for the state bred juvenile division heading toward Del Mar's fall stakes schedule. It's a smaller purse than the Saratoga features, but it's a good spot to catch an emerging 2-year-old before the price gets shorter.
How We're Betting Friday's Card
With eight fillies going in the Saratoga Oaks and a genuine pace question given how many horses like to sit just off the speed, this looks like a race worth playing in the exotics rather than trying to isolate one horse on top. Faithful Departed and Fitz Right both arrive fresh off good efforts at this exact course and distance, and the rematch from the Belmont Oaks is the obvious starting point for any ticket.
The Hall of Fame Stakes has produced two straight photo finishes and stewards' reviews, so it's worth watching the board closely once entries and morning line odds are posted. As always at Saratoga, keep an eye on turf course condition changes through the morning, since the Mellon course can play differently on a firm rail than a yielding one, and that shifts the profile of horse that wins both these turf features.
