Mandatory Monday Returns at Gulfstream While Assiniboia Toasts a Record Derby Week

Monday, August 10 belongs to Gulfstream Park. The Hallandale Beach track runs the latest installment of its branded Mandatory Monday, a guaranteed payout of the 20 cent Rainbow 6 that has become a weekly fixture since mid July. Up in Winnipeg, Assiniboia Downs is taking the week off from its usual Monday card after a Manitoba Derby program that shattered its own wagering records, so the signature Canadian carryover chase is on pause until Tuesday. Here is what to know before you build a ticket.

The Mandatory Monday Gulfstream Rainbow 6 pool builds toward another guaranteed payout at Gulfstream Park..

Gulfstream's Mandatory Monday Rainbow 6 Rolls On

Gulfstream added Monday racing to its summer schedule on July 13, branding each card Mandatory Monday and anchoring it with a guaranteed payout of the 20 cent Rainbow 6. Under normal rules, the Rainbow 6 jackpot only pays out in full when a single unique ticket sweeps all six legs. On a mandatory payout day, the entire pool is split among however many tickets hold the most winners, so the carryover clears out completely rather than rolling forward another day.

The pools have swung widely from one Monday to the next depending on how long the carryover had been building. The first Mandatory Monday of the summer produced multiple payoffs of $48,609.94 apiece off an $86,734 carryover, and other recent Mondays have ranged from a modest $19,464 carryover up toward pools that topped $400,000 once wagering closed. Each card also carries three added wagers built for grinding through the sequence: the $3 Players Late Pick 3, the $5 Players Late Double, and the $1 Place Pick 8, a 15 percent takeout wager that pays on the winner or runner up across the final eight races and carries its own 100 percent carryover when nobody sweeps it.

Monday's exact carryover figure was not yet posted as of this writing, since it depends on whether Sunday's card at Gulfstream produces a solved Rainbow 6. We will update this page once Gulfstream confirms the number and the six race sequence ahead of Monday's first post.

Assiniboia Downs Is Dark on Monday, Back Tuesday

There will be no live racing at Assiniboia Downs on Monday, August 10. The meet's base schedule only races Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with a short list of select Mondays added for the season, June 1, June 22, July 13, August 3 for Manitoba Derby Night, August 24, and September 14. August 10 is not one of them, so the track's own live racing notice lists the next cards as Tuesday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 12, and bettors chasing the next Jackpot Pick 5 carryover will have to wait a couple of extra days.

Assiniboia Downs Toasts a Record Manitoba Derby Week

There will be no live racing at Assiniboia Downs on Monday, August 10. The Winnipeg track's regular Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday schedule is on a short break following last week's Manitoba Derby program, and live racing resumes Tuesday, August 11 with Wednesday, August 12 to follow, so bettors chasing the next Jackpot Pick 5 carryover will have to wait a couple of extra days.

That pause comes after a genuinely record setting week. Western Warrior, sent off at 8/1 despite carrying the 2/1 morning line, held off a furious late run from 27/1 shot Quarry by a nose to win the 78th Manitoba Derby, with Gethsemane a further 2 1/4 lengths back in third. The win completed a huge weekend for overlay bettors, and the $1 exactor on Western Warrior over Quarry paid $221.35.

The bigger story for horseplayers was the ASD Jackpot Pick 5. The mandatory payout pool grew to more than $3 million once wagering closed, and the winning 20 cent ticket paid $10,400.32. Dontgiveupthefight took the $50,000 Escape Clause Stakes for trainer Robertino Diodoro, while Bergheim won the $50,000 Harvey Warner Manitoba Mile via disqualification after first place finisher Go Go Boss was set down for interference. The undercard stakes continued into Tuesday and Wednesday, with My Kid's Said No romping by 11 3/4 lengths in the Debutante Stakes and Bartender rallying to catch Evolution in the Manitoba Oaks.

How We're Approaching Monday's Wagering

With Assiniboia dark, Monday's carryover chasing action is all Gulfstream. The Rainbow 6's six leg sequence rewards patience more than a single confident opinion, so we like spreading the early legs and tightening up on the races where a clear favorite emerges, rather than trying to isolate a winner in every spot. The Place Pick 8 is worth a look too for anyone who wants exposure across the whole card without needing to nail the winner in each race, since second place still counts.

For Assiniboia bettors, the next real opportunity comes Tuesday, August 11, once the meet resumes and a new Jackpot Pick 5 carryover starts building from zero after last week's mandatory payout cleared the pool.
