How Off Track Betting Works in Connecticut
Connecticut has no active horse racing track, so the races you watch in East Haven run somewhere else. MyWinners East Haven shows them live on simulcast feeds from tracks across the US and around the world, and you bet into the same pools as everyone else on that race.
Those pools follow the pari mutuel system. Bettors compete against each other, not against the house. The operator takes a fixed cut, and the rest of the pool goes to the winning tickets. The odds keep moving until betting closes, and your payout depends on where they land.
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection oversees legal horse betting in the state. Our guide to how pari mutuel betting works covers the pool math in more detail.

Horse Racing Bets You Can Make
Start with the straight bets. A win bet needs your horse to finish first, a place bet needs first or second, and a show bet needs first, second or third. Exotic bets pay more and ask more of you. An exacta picks the first two finishers in order, a trifecta picks the first three in order, and a daily double picks the MyWinners of two races in a row.
Big race days give you the deepest cards. The Breeders’ Cup World Championships run October 30 and 31 at Keeneland, and the Kentucky Derby arrives on the first Saturday in May. Our Kentucky Derby betting guide for Connecticut shows how to bet it.
Greyhound Racing and Jai Alai
MyWinners East Haven also offers greyhound and jai alai betting. Our greyhound betting guide lists the UK, Irish, Australian and US tracks that feed MyWinners venues in Connecticut. If you want a change from horses between races, you can bet them from the same venue.
How to Bet on Horses in East Haven: Kiosk or Teller
You have two ways to place a bet at MyWinners East Haven.
Betting at the Self Service Kiosks
MyWinners East Haven has 12 self service kiosks plus 20 pari mutuel machines, and two manual tellers. You pick the track, the race, your horse, the bet type and your stake yourself, at your own pace. Kiosks suit first timers who want time to think.
Betting With a Teller
Your tellers can also help. Tell them the track, the race number, the bet type, the horse number and the amount. If you’re unsure of anything, ask before you commit.
Read the Program Before You Bet
Every race has a program of past performances. Check each horse’s recent finishes, the distance and surface it likes, and the trainer and jockey booked for the day. Then look at the odds on the screens. The morning line is the track handicapper’s early estimate, and the live odds show where the money is going.
Fractional odds tell you your profit against your stake. Say you like a horse at 5/2. A $2 win bet pays $5 profit plus your $2 back, so you collect $7. When a horse you rate sits at 6/1 and the morning line said 4/1, that price deserves a look.
Begin with win, place and show bets, then add an exacta once you feel settled. Set your stake for the day before you walk in, and read our bankroll management guide for a simple plan.
