Breeders’ Cup Future Stars Friday 2026: Juvenile Preview and Betting Guide

Hughes, Breeders' Cup Juvenile favorite on Future Stars Friday 2026.

Hughes has won four races by a combined margin of more than 24 lengths. Bob Baffert’s colt goes into Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at 5/4, and only Sun Goddess in the Juvenile Fillies Turf is shorter. Our Breeders’ Cup Future Stars Friday 2026 guide covers all five championships at Keeneland, with a full Juvenile preview, prices and a pick in every race.

Saturday’s nine Grade 1s, including the Classic and the Turf, are in our Breeders’ Cup 2026 hub guide.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint 2026 Preview

The Juvenile Turf Sprint opens the Breeders’ Cup at 2:55pm ET over 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass, with a field capped at 12. George Weaver’s Cy Fair won it last year at Del Mar.

Libertango tops the market at 7/4 for George Boughey. She beat Sun Goddess in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and then ran second to the same filly in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. Sun Goddess is Europe’s best two-year-old filly, so that form stands up. The home team’s best hope is Brickyard Belle for Miguel Clement. She is unbeaten in two starts, including the Grade 3 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park, and sits at 11/2.

Our pick: Libertango. Her two runs against Sun Goddess put her clear of this field on the book.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 2026 Preview

The $2 million Juvenile Fillies goes 1 1/16 miles on the dirt at 3:35pm ET. Super Corredora won it last year by three quarters of a length and went on to the Eclipse Award.

Two fillies dominate the betting. Miss Monica, at 9/4, won the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante for Bob Baffert and has trained in Kentucky since September. Emphatic, at 5/2, is unbeaten in three starts at three different tracks for Brendan Walsh, and she won the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades over this course and distance on October 2. Leonard Powell’s Domain Expansion won the Oak Leaf at Santa Anita by seven lengths and sits at 8/1, with Pocahontas winner Manuka Honey at 12/1.

Our pick: Emphatic. She has already won the key Keeneland prep, and she keeps finding more when a rival comes to her.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf 2026 Preview

The John Deere Juvenile Fillies Turf runs over a mile on the grass at 4:15pm ET. Ireland’s Balantina won last year at Del Mar by 1 1/4 lengths.

Sun Goddess is the banker of the day at 4/5. Aidan O’Brien’s filly beat Libertango by a length in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket in a course record time, her third Group 1 win from eight starts. Francis-Henri Graffard’s Amusingly comes next at 9/2. Chad Brown’s Domestic Agenda won the Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont Park by 4 1/2 lengths as the even money favorite, and she is the leading American filly at 10/1.

Our pick: Sun Goddess, with Domestic Agenda second in our exactas.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile 2026 Runners and Predictions

The FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is the race of the day. It goes 1 1/16 miles on the dirt at 4:55pm ET for $2 million. Ted Noffey won it by a length last year. Eight colts remain in the race.

Hughes Leads the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Field

Hughes has done nothing wrong. He won his maiden, then the Grade 3 Best Pal Stakes by 7 3/4 lengths, then the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity by 4 3/4 lengths. On October 3 he won the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita by six lengths as the 3/10 favorite, covering 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.22. Juan Hernandez rides for Baffert.

Baffert also saddles Salahudin, an unbeaten Iroquois Stakes winner at 15/2. Two Baffert colts in the same race could set the pace between them, which would hand an edge to the closers.

American History and Coach Pope Bring Keeneland Form

Todd Pletcher’s American History is two for two. He rallied from 5 1/2 lengths back to win the Grade 1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity over this track and trip on October 3, beating Coach Pope by a length. John Velazquez rides, and at 7/2 he is the main threat to Hughes.

Kenny McPeek’s Coach Pope, named for the Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope, pressed the pace in that Breeders’ Futurity and kept going to the wire. Jose Ortiz takes the ride at 4/1. Chad Brown’s Gaudreau finished second to U.S.S. Valor in the Champagne Stakes and sits at 11/1 with Flavien Prat.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile 2026 Pick

Hughes is the best horse in the race on every number we have, and we will not try to beat him. We want American History second, since his late run fits a race with two Baffert speed horses up front. Our Breeders’ Cup Juvenile bet: Hughes to win, plus a $1 exacta of Hughes over American History and Coach Pope, two combinations for $2.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf 2026 Preview

The Brown Advisory Juvenile Turf closes Friday at 5:35pm ET over a mile on the grass. Gstaad won it for O’Brien last year.

O’Brien’s Great Barrier Reef heads the market at 15/8 after finishing third behind Darkness Falls and Desert Castle in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. Joseph O’Brien’s Folsom Blues won the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh by six lengths in September and sits at 9/2. The American contingent includes Riley Mott’s How’s Al Today, who won the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile, and Kelsey Danner’s Agate, a 1 3/4 length winner of the Grade 2 Castle and Key Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland.

Our pick: Folsom Blues. A six length Group 1 win beats anything Great Barrier Reef has done, and at 9/2 he is the better bet than a favorite who lost his last start.
