The Breeders’ Cup at a Glance for Connecticut Bettors
The Breeders’ Cup World Championships close out the North American racing year. The host track changes from year to year, and past hosts include Keeneland, Santa Anita, Del Mar and Churchill Downs. Friday’s card features the championships for 2 year olds. Saturday carries the races for older horses and builds to the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the richest race of the weekend. Our Breeders’ Cup guide carries this year’s race schedule with post times, distances and purses.

Breeders’ Cup Bet Types Explained
Each host track sets its own betting menu, and the MyWinners racecard lists the bets and minimums on every race. Most Breeders’ Cup races allow up to 14 starters, so fields run big and exotic bets have plenty to work with.
Win, Place and Show Bets
A win bet pays if your horse finishes first. Place pays on first or second, and show pays on first, second or third. Show bets pay the least, but they keep you in the race when a big field turns messy at the top of the stretch.
Exactas, Trifectas and Superfectas
These bets ask you to name the finishing order. An exacta needs the first two in exact order, a trifecta the first three, and a superfecta the first four. A box covers every order of the horses you pick. A three horse exacta box covers six combinations, so it costs six times your base bet. A three horse trifecta box also covers six combinations, and a four horse trifecta box covers 24.
Daily Doubles and Pick Bets
A daily double asks you to pick the winners of two races in a row. Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5 and Pick 6 bets stretch that across three to six consecutive races. The biggest Breeders’ Cup championships run close together late on Saturday, so multi race bets let you tie several of them into one ticket.
New to exotics? Our guide to how to read betting odds covers the basics, and our $20 race day plan shows you how to spread a small bankroll across a big card.
Breeders’ Cup Post Times and TV in Connecticut
The MyWinners racecard shows every post time in Eastern Time, the same as your clock in Connecticut. Where the Breeders’ Cup lands makes a real difference. At an Eastern track like Keeneland, Saturday’s championships run through the afternoon and the Classic goes off in the early evening. When the event heads to a West Coast track like Santa Anita or Del Mar, the races run on Pacific Time, three hours behind Connecticut, so the Classic goes off on Saturday night on your clock.
Breeders’ Cup lists race order and post times as subject to change, so check the racecard on the day. Our Breeders’ Cup guide carries this year’s full schedule.
